Here are details of key staff members.
Geoff Fitzpatrick - Head Teacher
Geoff is the Head Teacher of the school and has overall responsibility for its leadership and management.
The whole of Geoff’s school career has been in special education and he has worked in a number of special schools including the Head of a specialist school for children with autism. He has a Master’s Degree in the education of children with special educational needs and an advance qualification in meeting the needs of children with autism. He is currently studying for his PhD with Birmingham University.
Geoff is the school’s Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding (Child Protection) and as such is responsible for the safety and well-being of the children on a day to day basis. He also directly liaises with the Governing Body and the Local Authority. He represents the school on a number of Local Authority and National Bodies, including the School Improvement Group.
Vicki Clements - Deputy Head Teacher School for Autism
Vicki is the Deputy Head Teacher for the School for Autism @ Newfield and is the pastoral lead for staff and pupils in that department.
She has the responsibility for meeting the needs of the pupils with autism throughout the school and specific autism interventions including TEACCH and Sensory Integration. She also co-ordinates the training programmes and workshops for staff and parents/carers with a focus on meeting autism needs.
Vicki has worked for many years in the field of autism, including a senior leadership post in an autism specific school. She has autism specific qualifications including a Master’s degree and an advanced qualification in school leadership endorsed by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership.
In addition Vicki has a whole school responsibility for pupil assessment, communication and Positive Behaviour Support, including Team Teach.
Helen Willett - Deputy Head Teacher 2 to 13
Helen is the Deputy Head Teacher for the 2 to 13 department. She has responsibility meeting the pastoral needs of the staff and pupils of the department, including the Early Year Foundation Stage curriculum and the curriculum for children with profound/complex and multiple learning difficulties. She also takes the lead on the sensory curriculum.
Helen has worked in special education for many years and she has a Master’s in Educational Studies and an advanced qualification in leadership and management accredited by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership.
Helen has a whole school responsibility for leading and developing Parent/Carer partnership and the Leading Parent Partnership Award. She also leads on community partnership and cohesion, including our links with Blackburn with Darwen Multi Faith Forum.
Jenny Riley - Deputy Head Teacher 14-19
Jenny is the Deputy Head Teacher for the 14 to 19 Department. She is the pastoral lead for staff and pupils in the department and is responsible for accreditation. Jenny is currently leading a project aimed at promoting the improved wellbeing & mental health of the Newfield family.
Beginning her teaching career in secondary mainstream where she taught Modern Foreign Languages for 5 years, Jenny moved into special education and has over 15 years experience in this sector. During this time she has achieved a number of advanced qualifications in school senior leadership endorsed by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership.
In addition Jenny has a whole school responsibility for pupil health and well-being; coordinating Education Health Care Plans, including liaison with healthcare, social care and therapy colleagues; Children in Our Care (CIOC); the Rights Respecting Schools initiative and is our PREVENT lead. She works closely with HR to facilitate the training and professional development of staff on special educational needs. She also co-ordinates the programmes for a wide range of students on placement in school from universities and colleges.
Jenny Nelson - Assistant Head Teacher School for Autism
Jenny is the Assistant Head for the School for Autism @ Newfield and works closely with Vicki to ensure the smooth running of the department. Jenny has studied an advanced qualification in autism with Birmingham University and has obtained a qualification on the middle leadership development programme, endorsed by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership. She has taught in special school for a number of years.
She supports and advises children with Autism throughout the school and is a qualified trainer for Team Teach with a whole school responsibility for Positive Behaviour Support. She also works on the accreditation programme within the department for the older students
Laura Holmes - Assistant Head Teacher 2 to 13
Laura is the Assistant Head for the 2 to 13 department. Laura works with Helen to lead and manage the department, supporting colleagues and developing learning opportunities. She is our link liaison with the nurseries and Children’s Centres in Blackburn with Darwen.
Laura has taught in a number of special schools and has an advanced qualification in middle leadership, endorsed by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership
Laura has a whole school responsibility for Communication and is a qualified Regional Makaton Instructor.
Lois Talbot - Assistant Head Teacher 14-19
Lois is the Assistant Head for the 14 to 19 Department. Lois works with Jenny, alongside Julie, to lead and manage the department, supporting colleagues and developing learning opportunities.
Lois has and advanced qualification in school leadership endorsed by the National College for Teaching and School Leadership. She has also completed the minibus driver safety qualification (MIDAS DAT).
Lois has a whole school responsibility for the development of the curriculum pathway for pupils with profound and multiple learning needs, music and leads the secondary choir.
Julie Jones - Assistant Head Teacher Post 16
Julie is the Assistant Head for Post 16 students in the 14 to 19 department. Julie works with Jenny and Lois, to lead and manage the phase, supporting colleagues and developing opportunities, particularly in the post 16 age group. They are both directly responsible for the specific, individual transition arrangements of our leavers.
Julie has many years’ experience of teaching special educational needs. She leads the whole school Inclusion Quality Mark (Flagship Status) and is responsible for outreach links for both individual and groups of pupils who work in partnership with mainstream primary and secondary schools in the Blackburn with Darwen family of schools.
Louise Melling - Human Resources and Business Manager
Louise is the Human Resources and Business Manager.
She has responsibility for all HR and Professional Development within school.
She also has responsibility for reception, communication, marketing and hospitality.
She works closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors to ensure that our staff feel supported at work and our employment practices are of the highest possible standard.
Caroline Richens - Finance and School Manager
Caroline is the Finance and School Manager.
She has responsibility for the administration and recording of all financial records in school.
She also has responsibility for the Pupil Services department which looks after pupil records, annual reviews and data.
She works closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors to assist in all aspects of school life.
Bill Trezise - Premises and Services Manager
Bill is the Premises and Services Manager.
He is responsible for the IT equipment and systems in school he is also has responsible for the Buildings and Grounds at Newfield.
Bill works closely with the Head teacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governing body to ensure the school maintains the highest possible teaching and learning environment and equipment for the pupils and staff at Newfield.
