The Amazing Effects of Exercise

Many of our students at school benefit greatly from regular exercise, it can be regulating, calming as well as great for their health. The link below tells the story of Spencer, a man with Autism who struggles to communicate effectively and can find day to day life challenging. Spencer loves to walk, he regularly walks up mountains with his brother and sister who can not recommend the benefits of this enough. They suggest that “the effects it has on him are wonderful”.

Here at Newfield, regular exercise is encouraged and is certainly necessary in many cases among our young people. We approach this in a number of ways; by using the gym, going for walks locally, cycling, swimming and much more.

This year, one of our older classes have started their Duke of Edinburgh Award, they have been walking regularly and further afield recently in preparation for an over night stay and a longer walk as part of the award. The D of E award will hopefully be continued in future years to enable our young people to have further access to regular exercise in the great outdoors!
