Farewell Dr. Perera

Today, Newfield school marked the end of an era, following Dr Perera’s final clinic in school as a consultant community paediatrician.

Dr Perera’s links to the school and it’s pupils go back to time immemorial, long before any of our current students and even long-standing staff began at the school.

He has worked tirelessly for decades supporting the children and families of Blackburn and beyond. He always makes time to talk to parents and staff enabling them to ask questions, tell him about their worries and is reassuring and kind to everyone.

We will really miss having him supporting us, as we know our families will also, but he has worked with Dr Valli who takes over and he assures us that she is a wonderful replacement and we couldn’t have asked for better - they are big shoes to fill!

Children had made cards, and as a surprise, as Dr. Perera was leaving after clinic, he was way-laid at our atrium tree by children, staff, the head teacher and the nursing team - all clapping him, presenting their cards and cheering him on his way.

We wish him all the best in his retirement and we were very pleased that he confirmed that we haven’t seen the last of him - Thank you for everything Dr. Perera.
