Independence in the Community

Our children and young people love getting out and about in the community and putting their independence skills into use.

Some of TG3 enjoyed their first visit to Shadworth Community Cafe today, as part of their ‘accessing community facilities ‘ curriculum theme. They absolutely loved it. Here are some photos of them enjoying fudge cake, availing themselves of the library books and making themselves comfortable and enjoying some toast and juice.

S4 have had a lovely morning in the library with lots of opportunities to explore, choose and show how confident they are. Everyone enjoyed sharing a sensory story then they did some ribbon dancing and played some parachute games. All the children joined the library and have taken their membership cards home with them to use when they visit with their families. They also managed to incorporate some road safety learning too.

Blackburn Library is accessible, has a disabled toilet and a designated children’s toilet and there is also a sensory den. The lady who ran the session for us is called Angela Boatswain - so why not pop into the library and see what is available - you can join and take out virtual books - so no need to return them!
