Emily's Mini Farm comes to Newfield

This morning we welcomed Emily and family from ‘Emily’s mini farm’ as part of our Farm to Fork topic in Key Stage 3 this term. We had chickens, rabbits, tortoises, guinea pigs and dwarf hamsters in the school hall. We had the opportunity to feel the soft fur, feathers or hard shells. Emily talked us through the names of each animal, what they eat and like to do, how old they were and how to look after them. We talked about eggs coming from chickens and had time to explore and watch the animals move around their enclosures.

Outside, Suzy sheep and Ant and Dec the goats were waiting to welcome us and it was fantastic to see larger animals up close. We learnt about the way in which they are cared for, watched them eat their hay and even got to stroke them if we wanted.

Children from both preformal and semi formal classes attended the event and both staff and pupils had a wonderful time getting to know the animals and watching them move, feeling them and listening to Suzy the sheep with her loud ‘baa’!

Thank you Emily and family (and animals!) for a fantastic start to our topic and your fantastic knowledge!

What a lovely experience for everyone
