Rachel Kay

Headteacher

About Rachel Kay.

Rachel is our headteacher and responsible for the strategic leadership of the school.

She has been working in SEN settings for 23 years. She is an experienced DSL and has been a senior leader, a deputy headteacher and a headteacher.

She has a passion for nurturing talent and has supported a number of staff into senior leadership positions including headship.

Newfield is Rachel’s second headship, following 12 years in a 2-19 school in Chorley.

In her previous Headship she created a separate post 16 provision to respond to local need, based on a destination led model. This ensured students left fully equipped for the next steps in their adult life.

She also developed an in-house multi- agency provision to respond to the reduction of external services. This ‘team around the child and family’ approach, ensured all pupils had timely access to the right support to meet their needs.

She has a degree in Psychology and the nationally recognised qualification for headship – the NPQH. She has completed an MSc in Senior Leadership with a specific focus on educational research.

She has a passion for creating a ‘one size fits one’ provision for students, to empower them with the key skills they need for lifelong learning and independence.

She is committed to creating an outstanding learning community for students, staff, parents and the wider community at Newfield.
